Dr Fiona Martin

Dr Fiona Martin is a registered Educational and Developmental Psychologist with over 20 years of clinical and research experience.

With multiple degrees in psychology, including specialised training from The School of Medicine, University of North Carolina, Dr Martin has extensive experience in treating patients across the lifespan including young children, adolescents and adults. She has worked in a variety of in-patient and out-patient settings including hospitals, universities, non-government organisations and schools. Dr Martin provides comprehensive assessments, individual and group therapy, parent workshops and professional development training for education and health professionals. She has many years of experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disorders, intellectual disabilities, behavioural and attention deficit disorder (ADHD). She is skilled in a range of therapeutic techniques including family systems and attachment based parenting programs.

Dr Martin’s Ph.D. focused on improving the social functioning of young people with high functioning autism spectrum disorder and she has been involved in a number of research studies including early intervention techniques for children with autism spectrum disorder, offenders with intellectual disabilities and effective interview techniques for children’s eye witness testimony.

Dr Martin has lectured in child development and educational psychology and has many years of experience in the supervision and training of Psychologists. She has consulted to a variety of organisations and developed evidence based therapeutic manuals for children. She has contributed to national radio, newspaper and television programs on issues relating to mental health and she chaired the first ever Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Committee in the Federal Parliament.
